Using NVivo for Qualitative Analysis (PhD course)

Using NVivo for Qualitative Analysis (PhD course)

This course will go in-depth in working with NVivo.

24.08.2021 kl. 09.00 - 31.08.2021 kl. 15.30

This course will go in-depth in working with NVivo. From using the program's interface to making use of the many features for qualitative analysis. It will be possible to work with your own data at the course. If you do not have any data to work with a research case with data will be provided.

Contents of the COURSE

This two-day course is partitioned into four modules. It is possible to only attend some of the modules (please specify which modules you plan on attending when signing up).

MODULE 1: Getting started and knowing the basics (24. AUGUST)

This module starts from scratch by describing what kind of program NVivo is and its main uses. From there the interface is introduced, taking you through all the basic functions and explaining the terminology using an existing project. Finally, you will start your own NVivo project.

MODULE 2: Designing a research project with NVivo (24. AUGUST)

Starting from a blank project, this module goes through the most important design considerations to consider when starting a NVivo project. You are encouraged to work on your own research project while learning how to import, structure and explore data in NVivo. The module covers how to code and structure various qualitative data with cases, nodes, and attributes and how to make use of these functions with different research designs and strategies in mind.

MODULE 3: Analyze and explore with NVivo (31. AUGUST)

This module builds on an existing project that you are expected to have developed between modules 2 and 3. This module covers how to make use of various query and visualization functions in NVivo and how they tie into how the material is coded.

The module goes on to discuss advanced project structures when working with multiple data sources (including data captured with NCapture – data from the web), as well as using NVivo as a collaborative platform.

MODULE 4: Super-user perspective, reliability and advanced features (31. AUGUST)

This module presents a super-user perspective on the use of NVivo in qualitative research based on a concrete research project. How NVivo is suited for different analytical strategies is presented and discussed as well as the role NVivo plays in a qualitative research process. Advanced features like auto-tagging and auto-queries will also be introduced.

This COURSE is also a 1 ECTS phD course

If you are a PhD student, this course can be taken as a 1 ECTS PhD course. Receiving credits requires participating in all four modules. Please check that you are a PhD student on the sign up form.
